Professional Staff
Ada Gregory - Director
Responsibilities include overseeing the Women's Center and Sexual Assault Support Services.
Sheila Broderick - Sexual Assault Support Services Coordinator
I am trained to provide therapy or counseling for men and women who have been victimized by interpersonal violence (relationship violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and stalking) either while enrolled at Duke or prior to attending Duke University. If you are not interested in therapy, I can also assist you to make a safety plan, request a room reassignment or inquire about academic extensions. You might ask “How will talking about it make me feel better?” It’s a good question. Here’s what the research says – when something bad happens to us, most of us talk to somebody about it – usually friends. Many people report a feeling of relief from “getting it off their chests” if the person they have told is non-judgmental and supportive. But, that is often not enough. A well-trained therapist listens, yes, but more importantly, a well trained therapists asks questions in such a way to help you reframe your thoughts that are driving anxiety and depression. The sooner after a trauma occurs that you receive treatment, the better the long term outcomes, but it is never too late.
