SHARP Peer Eds
Any student interested in becoming a Healthy Devil peer educator isencouraged to complete an onlineapplication. As part of this process, applicants will be askedto select their preferences from among the five Healthy Devilgroups. Applicants who preference SHARP will be invited for ascreening interview with a member of the Sexual Assault SupportServices (SASS) staff. Based on your written application and thisinterview, each class of SHARP peer eds is selected. If selected, all Healthy Devils participate in an initial training includingconcepts and activities from the BACCHUS AND GAMMA Certified PeerEducator program and additional topic training provided bystaff/faculty.
Once this initial training is complete, HealthyDevils are given the option to “try out” to become a specializedpresenter for SHARP. As an additional selection step for thesespecialized presenter roles, Healthy Devils who choose toparticipate will then complete a mock presentation for theadvisor(s) and a select group of experienced presenters from theparticular group. From those who “try out”, a subset of HealthyDevils will be selected to become presenters. This subset will thencomplete a rigorous topic training (ranging from 10-25 hours ofadditional topic training depending on the group). Trainedpresenters then often complete their first semesters as “mentees,”observing and presenting alongside experienced presenters beforethey are themselves considered experienced. This entire selectionand training process typically takes from 1 to 3 semesters tocomplete.
