Helping a Survivor
People respond to sexual and relationship violence in differentways based on personality, past experiences, and their supportnetwork. In addition to accompanying physical injuries,STD’s, or pregnancy for women, survivors of sexual and relationshipviolence may experience fluctuating emotions, lowered trust inothers, concerns about safety, crying, nightmares, flashbacks,exhaustion, and feelings of shame, anger, and loss ofcontrol. They may have difficulty concentrating on work orstudies and their eating, sleeping, and social patterns maychange.
